Hello,

I switched from Trend Micro to Mcafee Total protection on January 8th. I then took multiple trouble tickets and technical support phone calls to get the software installed ... some 5 hours now at least on the phone with them. Finally gets installed on the 18th. Computer ran smooth all weekend ... no performance issues, no new software installs, no new sites visited ... I am the only one that uses the PC and I am quite tech savvy ... I know what "not" to click on. Last evening I lost power to my house. Fortunately my primary computer is a laptop so I gracefully shut it down ... at this time .. Mcafee was running and there were no performance issues nor any unusual tasks running in Task Manager. Upon getting home from work today, I boot my PC and it comes up VERY slowly. Mind you the PC was rebooted multiple times trying to get McAfee installed and it came up fine. When it comes up I notice that McAfee Vaults and Firewall are running services in task manager but the base antivirus is gone!!!! doesn't show installed anywhere! I pull up task manager and I have this service svchost.exe*32 winrscmde running at 40% CPU and up to 600K+ memory usage and climbing. immediate web search indicates a Trojan. I try to reinstall mcafee and that fails. I call tech support again and spend 2hrs on the phone ... after 1hr 45 min of the engineer trying to get mcafee installed, he gets it up and running and does a quick scan ... nothing found. he transfers me to virus removal support and they want $90 to remove it ... I am beyond frustrated and upset now. I am hoping that someone here on this site can help me get this virus off my computer. I will be dealing with customer service for McAfee tomorrow to get my money back, but I am not putting money on that they will comp me free virus removal.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for the quick response boopme! My apologies on the correct forum process. My first time actually posting here. I have completed the steps in the Preparation Guide link you provided, and created a new topic per the instructions with DDS and attach.txt.

Thank you!

Hello, you posted OK. After reviewing it ,I see that you will have to post there as it's the only way to fix this.

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRL Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

The current wait time is 1 - 2 days and ALL logs are answered.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.
