selected boot image did not authenticate HELP

brand new laptop you go to start it up this pops up SELECTED BOOT IMAGE DID NOT AUTHENTICATE PRESS ENTER you press enter and powers off
what happened and why?HELP

Brand new laptop is likely to have a warranty I would call the manufacturer and tell them what is happening.

You are probably having a problem with the security certificate for 'secure boot' being validated. Since it is new, I would return it for another. A new computer that has that problem probably has more.

The workaround is to turn off 'secure boot' but like I said, this is a warning that there are probably other problems in addition to this error.
