Make and model of computer: HP Pavilion Laptop running Vista

How the computer is connected: Wireless

Make and model of Router: Qwest PK5000; Trying to install RE1000 Extender

Approximate Distance From the router the PC is if its a wireless connection: Too far. The modem is located in a room under the stairway in the basement that has the central wiring center for the house. We've been slowly adding new components to the music system, but that's all wired. I have 3 wired computers hooked up and multiple wireless devices which include: 2 Samsung Smart TVs, 2 Gaming systems (PS3 and Wii), 2 Laptops, 3 Bluray DVD players and a DSi. I use WEP encryption mainly because WEP was the only encryption system the DSi would work with, if you can believe it. So, along with WEP encryption, I have also enabled MAC authentication on my router to make it more secure. I haven't had too much trouble until I started expanding to more wireless devices. The signal from the modem before in most upstairs rooms was "Fair," now it is "Poor" or won't connect at all. So, I bought a Linksys RE1000 Extender for $79 from WalMart. Although it would not connect from the software install, I was able to enter the device ip and enter the WEP encryption and determine its MAC address.

What type of internet you have (Dsl, Cable, T-1,etc..) Qwest DSL B)

PROBLEM: When I plug the RE1000 into the wall and try to link it to the PK5000 router, it keeps trying to connect, then disconnect, then connect. Even the LED looks as if it is pulsing. At that point all my wireless devices "see" the RE1000 and it tells my laptop that it IS the PK5000 but it does not connect anything to the internet and it looks as if the connection between the router and extender is never fully realized.

I'm guessing at this point that the RE1000 is defective and that I should get another one and take this one back, but it says that it is "resolving proxy" and I thought there might be some kind of proxy setting that I'm missing because I've never worked with a proxy before. Don't know squat diddley about them, so I thought someone could inform me.

Here is the log BEFORE the RE1000 is connected:
