So Im running windows 8 and mcAfee came pre installed but it says that the firewall and Real-Time scanning are both off. Trying to turn them on makes them instantly turn back off.

Ive attempted to restart the firewall and such through service.msc but that has failed to do anything. And yes Ive searched around for other similar issues on both this site and McAfee support neither of which have led to a working solution.

Doesn't Windows 8 come with its own firewall?

Hi -
Do you wish to keep your McAfee program installed, or would you prefer to remove it and make your own selection ??

Just because it comes Pre-installed means nothing in the overall scheme, if it will not work how you would like it to.

There is a fairly wide selection of Totally Free programs, or you can choose any paid program that yuo wish -

Thank You -

Try to uninstall McAfee in Safe mode and then restart your computer and re-install McAfee. May be it will help you out otherwise change your AV program.

How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR)

Link is direct to McAfee site -

Try the listed McAfee Removal and then if you wish, you can Reinstall or use another Free Antivirus Program -
