I have a Acer Aspire S3 series ultrabook. Part number: LX.RSF02.079 or model number: ms2346.

I have a problem where it boots up to a white screen and stays a bright white screen; however, when I barely close it and peek at the screen I can see that everything (icons, data) is fine. Therefore, my probelm is with the display.

I opened it and noticed that a wire is sticking out which I believe it is the cause. When I barely close the screen it may get some connection and that is why I can see stuff at that point. The part is the part that connects the motherboard to the display.

My problem is that I don't know what the part is called so I can't buy a replacement. I looked at the back and saw OK 11.2011 Cmi but I don't have any more information. I looked through http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Acer,Aspire,S3-951-6646,LX.RSF02.079,Laptop,Parts.aspx but don't really know which part it is. I attached a picture of the part (pic is from techrepublic)

Hi, As near as I can tell you are looking at the flat cable called the
LCD Cable, I wish the picture was larger and from both sides to help be sure.

Use this manual to be sure http://www.manualowl.com/m/Acer%20Computers/Aspire-S3-391/Manual/288270
Page one shows "Aspire S3 MS2346 SERVICEGUIDE "

Good Luck
Roger

Thank you. The problem is with the LCD Cable but now I am having problems trying to find where to buy a LCD Cable. The part number is SM30HS-A016-001 and the screen pasrt number is LK.13305.006.

Can someone try finding where I can buy this LCD Cable? Does it have to be the same one or does other 13" LCD Cables work as well? If I buy a screen (the LCD screen seems to be an easier find than LCD CAble) does it come with a LCD Cable?

While looking for a place to buy LCD cables I found this http://www.laptopking.com/kingpartdetails.asp?ref=2050&category=cables I use a ACER ASPIRE S3-951 series and this says it is for S3 series but the picture looks different. Will it be compatible?

The cables have to be for the make and model. They may use the same part number for others but there is no way to be sure. The screens do not come with the cable. There is no standard for the plug at the motherboard end nor for the cable length.

I know you don't want to go this route but have you considered buying the part from Acer?

I have no vendor for that part to suggest, sorry.

Why not call Laptop King and ask if they have the right cable. If it doesn't look the same then it is unlikely to work.

Good Luck
Roger

Since I can't find a place to buy a LCD Cable, do you know where to look up displays that are compatible with the motherboard of an Acer s3-951 series which is an Intel HM67?

Well, do you have access to a HDMI TV? You should be able to use that as a screen by hooking up a HDMI cable to it. You should be able to use <Fn> + <F5> to toggle the view to an external display. If you can do this then you know it's not an internal part causing the problem, like the mother board.

However, there are many problems which will cause issues of the screen.

1. Software
- Try Fn + F5 just to make sure you are not toggled for an external screen.

2. Electrical
- power down, unplug, remove battery, hold power switch for at least 60 sec, replace batter, plug back in, power on.

3. Magnetic On/Off Switch to detect of Close/Open Lid
- Your magnet may be messed up.
- Workaround, start windows with lid at 30 degree angle

4. Hardware
- You need to replace either Inverter, Blacklight, or everything.

This is a very good site to check your white screen. How do you know it's the wire and not the actual LCD screen? This website will take you thru the steps to trouble shoot that scenario. You may not need to replace the wire.

I found one can't tell by your picture, I would send you model number to the supplier and double check to make sure this is for your system. Unless you seeing it in person can verify that it is correct. Hope it helps. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Acer-Aspire-S3-S3-471-V5-V5-431-V5-471-Laptop-Lcd-LVDS-Cable-/400382927928?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d38aea438
