I use a WD My Passport 2TB external USB powered HDD.
I use it between 4 PC's at home all running Windows 7.
I have Bitdefender Anti Virus on all machines and all is updated.
But my Folders on the External drive have all changed to "Shortcuts" on the HDD, and if I double click on them, they do not open the folders, so I cannot access the folders / data. Single files written to the root are all fine, I just cannot use Folders to save data in. I have backups of everything, so I formated the drive (3 times) and as soon as I save folders, it works for 1 or 2 times, then they change to shortcuts again.
Is this a virus that my Anti Virus software is missing?
Any help would be appreciated.

If it were a malware problem...I doubt that it would be restricted to the contents of one drive.

Have you run the appropriate hard drive diagnostic on the drive?
