Hello IvySCS,

The error is a hardware issue, more than likely. Let's move this thread to the BC Hardware forum.

Thank you.

When the PC locks up and shuts down on its own after the blue screen, it comes to a load with disk message, but if I do a hard reboot then the OS loads just fine.

Have you recently installed any new hardware?

Attempt to boot in safe mode (F8) and see if it persists.

Please check the folder C:\Windows\minidumps. Do you see any minidumps and what is the latest date it has reproduced by clicking view - details?

Can you compress and attach or post directly the minidump files?

Also, were there any positive results from booting into safe mode?

Safe mode crashed too, color me surprised. How do I attach the minidump files? I've changed permissions etc, but the site isn't letting me download them and I'm not sure what program to use to open and thus paste them.

The latest/only minidump(s) in the folder occurred on 10/10/2012

You report the above indicating that the current rash of STOP 0xF4 errors are not saving the crash dumps (most likely not saving to the hard drive at all).

Minidumps dated back in October are unlikely to be of much use, I suspect.

For your information: STOP 0x000000F4: CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION

I would like to ask you to get me some more information to work with, but I am not sure of which Windows OS is being used and I need to know so that I can post the correct instructions:
  • Please let me know whether it's XP, Vista or Win7 or ...
I did look at your log when you first posted it, and thought it likely not a malware-related issue ... but I cannot remember which Windows OS!

Edited to add:
Let's start with these ... and I'll post the remainder of the instructions when I know which OS we are dealing with.

:step1: Please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy, and post a link to it in this thread.
  • It is a convenient and accurate way of providing us with details of your computer specifications.
Note: Speccy will not work in Safe Mode (even with networking).

:step2: Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your Desktop and run it.
  • Checkmark the following checkboxes:
    • List Installed Programs
  • Click Go.
When the scan is finished, a text file will open in a Notepad window.
  • Copy the entire contents of the Notepad window, and paste in your reply.
(Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.)

Yes, I am. Thank you for asking. I'm almost to the point of wiping out the drive and starting fresh, but I really prefer not to.It crashes in any mode....whether safe mode, regular, connected to Internet or not.
