I believe that, since the date of the folders (in Windows WinSXS folder) show date of Oct. 2012, that I have no expected programs installed to use the C++ Redist. v9. The only time I found any installation occurring was a couple months ago when I tried to install Libre Office, became confused and then uncomfortable that it was seeming to cause a download and install of some Visual C++... something, and so I stopped this install and also completely deleted the (PORTABLE) installation of any remaining Libre Office.
Even so, people have told me not to try uninstalling the Vis C++ 2008 Redist, since it may be needed by some programs which nobody can identify to me. The computer is more than 8 years old; the install of Vis C++ Redistbl v9 seems to be only since October 2012.
- How can I be sure that the current installation of Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributables x86 9.0.30729.6161 is complete or incomplete (since I had interrupted the install process)?
- In case the install IS incomplete, how can I make it become complete?
- Could I be safe in creating a "test_hide" folder within the WinSXS folder, and move all of the Microsoft.VC90*_9.0.30729.6161 folders into this "test_hide" one, and find how the computer and several programs & applications work during the next several weeks, before eventually returning them and uninstalling the C++ 2008 Redistributables installation?
