The power jack on the back of my Dell 510 laptop is a little jacked up, and every once in a while it will power off by itself.
it's done it twice today (usually it does it about once a week).
I notice on power up, it takes forever to open Chrome, Outlook etc., and then when I do, those windows go in and out of
responding.
I wonder if there is anything I need to do to "fix" or restore anything when I get these uncontrolled power-offs.

Thanks,
Brigid

A quick update. I restarted the system, and did a google search for Mindmixer.com. It took about four minutes to completely open the site after clicking on the link.
I've just spent several days with bloopie here on this site working through computer slowness issues. We had them all worked out. It was fast.
Now it seems to have reverted back.

Hello Brigg and welcome to Bleeping Computer.

You came to the right place for getting assistance with your computer problem.

You mentioned 127 threats were found by MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. We do not usually ask for Malware scan results in the Internal hardware forum section.

However I would like you to post the scan results in your next reply, that is if you haven't deleted it already.

If your not sure where the text file is located, you can locate by starting MalwareBytes and opening the results tab.

If your system shows signs of an infection other than common tracking cookies, I will ask a Moderator to move this topic to the "AM I Infected?" forum board.

Thanks in advance.

Bruce.

HI - the last MWB log shows 12/25/12.
There's a ton of stuff in quarantine, including some trojans and malware and rootkit.
Most have to do with the registry.
Should I delete it all?

It takes about 8 minutes after double clicking to get it to open.... and the egg timer doesn't show.

I checked my SuperAntiSpyware log, and there were 127 threats detected with a date of today, so
I miscommunicated earlier.
That info is below.

Hello Brigg, first off your SuperAntiSpyware scan log shows mostly tracking cookies for Google Chrome.

Before I assist you with any hardware issues, I am going to make contact with Bloopie and ask him to check out this thread, Bloopie has had complete training in the BC Malware Removal Staff.

His advice will help me with a decision as to whether your computer needs advanced malware / rootkit cleaning, before any hardware issues are addressed.

Thank you for understanding and thank you for your patience.

Bruce.

Hello Brigg. I have spoken with Bloopie and was giving the all clear to offer you hardware related advice.

He also observed that your SuperAntiSpyware scan log only shows tracking cookies, tracking cookies are not malicious in nature, they simply track what websites you visit.

I had mentioned that in my last reply to you, however I edited it out and decided I should speak with Bloopie before I offered too much unneeded information.

Before I speak with you about hardware issues, I would like you to clean out your quarantined folder for MalwareBytes.

If you have any other quarantined virus/malware related folders from other scan programs clean those out as well.

Please reply to this topic once you have performed those tasks and we'll start working on getting your computer back to a functioning state again.

Thanks in advance.

Bruce.

HI there - I did that (deleted from MWB and Super antispyware) I'd heard quarantining was safer than deleting so
I worry about deleting.

Anyway, that's done!

I ran a quick scan of Microsoft Security Essentials this am and it found nothing.
Last night I ran a Panda cloud scan - it took about 3 hours - and it found nothing.

Thanks!

You're welcome for my help.

Quarantined files are placed into a folder where they are incapable of executing any harmful code on the suspect computer.

It is safe to clean out the Quarantined folder. The reason files are placed in a quarantined folder in the first place is just in case a false positive happens, the falsely accused file can be retrieved and placed back in the directory to which it was removed from.

Now, just so I do not have you repeat what you have already done with Bloopie, is there a topic on the BC forum board to which you can direct me to where this help is posted?

Thanks in advance...

Bruce.

Thank you for the link to your previous topic. It has helped me to understand what you have been through up to this point.

I have to help a local friend of mine with a customer support issue that I feel is not being handled correctly at a local retailer store.
Once I am finished getting this person the warranty support I believe they deserve, I'll be back on this topic and work with you to get this computer running smoothly and flawlessly as IT WAS INTENDED TO BE!

Please be patient for my next reply, I wish to offer you my dedicated support. :thumbup2:

Thanks in advance.

Bruce.

Brigg at the beginning of this topic you posted your laptop model number as being a Dell 510. Is that the complete model number? Can you double check to see if there is another number or letter in your laptop model number?

Thanks in advance...

Bruce.

Yes, thank you for replying, I just wanted to make sure I was looking up the correct laptop.

just so I have a better understanding of how your system is setup and functioning, I am going to have you download and run a few programs that will make that easier for you and I.

First, I need you to do follow the instructions posted below.

How To Publish a Snapshot using Speccy

Guide Overview

The purpose of this guide is to teach you how to post your computer's specifications to the forum with minimal effort on your part. This is often helpful when troubleshooting problems, and the person helping you needs to see the details of your computer's hardware.

Tools Needed
  • Speccy - First, you will need a program called Speccy. From Piriform's website: "Speccy is an advanced system information tool for your PC." This is a very useful utility that every PC user should have in their arsenal.

Instructions
  • Go to Piriform's website, and click the big Posted Image button.

Next, click Download from Piriform (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version.

You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.
  • After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.
  • Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):
    Posted Image

Now, in the menu bar at the top left, click File > Publish Snapshot

You will see the following prompt:
    Posted Image

Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

    Posted Image

Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the Posted Image button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Add Reply below the Reply box.

Once you have posted your Speccy snapshot, it will be reviewed and a reply will be offered to you as soon as time permits.

Thank You For Choosing Bleeping Computer For computer related Help And Assistance

Once you have posted what I have requested, I may ask for you to run another program, but this is all I need from you for now.

Bruce.

Hello!

http://speccy.piriform.com/results/1hwhrJThQxzZiClGe5gmDgd

thanks.

When my system was running slow yesterday I noticed jusched was running - it was something I had disabled a week or so ago - not a good thing to have running. My msconfig is not recognized though the Run option. When I watch TV via Hulu on this computer it's jerky it's so slow.
I'd like it to be a little faster....but it's much better than before I worked with bloopie.
