Ok so just a few days ago I had a fantastic computer that ran so smoothly and quickly. I do weekly scans with Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, spybot, and Vipre. Then I run CCleaner and Speedupmypc. (can you tell I am a freak when it comes to a healthy computer). So something got my computer and I have no idea what it could be. I consider myself to be a pretty smart user too. I rarely download anything without scanning it twice. I have now even run tdsskiller and combofix hoping to find some answers as well as malwarebytes rootkit scanner. NOTHING! I am in desperate need here. The symptoms are at startup, occasionally it just goes to black screen, but when it starts up it takes FOREVER and I have set it to only start up Vipre and Delldock automatically. Then the bottom bar changes color a few times. I always see a black command prompt box for a split second at startup. Then My internet goes back and forth between working and not working. Occasionally firefox will be "not responding" or some other program will and then shut down automatically. PLEASE HELP! I have run out of doing what I know to do

Hello and Welcome -
Sorry to inform you but I do already know about 80% of your problems, the other 20% is your silly use of ComboFix -

Speedupmypc. is a Registry Cleaner that is one step short of a Rogue Infection .............
This must be removed Now (if you can), and if you can not, then please post back and we will try to help you -

You have gone too far over-board with the use of unnecessary programs at times that they should never be used.

Your previous uses of ComboFix may have also damaged the Operating System, as this special tool is NOT a regular usage tool -

Thank You -

You will probably be better off to reinstall the operating system than trying to fix what you've done. As soon as I saw you had used Speedupmypc I knew you were in trouble.

Ok it is deleted, and I have not used combofix but twice, once as directed by someone on here, and once two days ago as a last resort and i did close all of my antivirus software first. Do I really need to go through reinstalling my os?

And the other thing is, I have had speedupmypc on my computer for a year now, and this just started two days ago, before i used combofix. So something else is wrong...

Hello again -
I doubt that you were told by anyone at this ite to ever install a Registry Cleaner program since Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:
• Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.
Also this is your first topic posted on this site - Your history of posted topics only has this one item listed - If you have previously registered with another screen name and through another email address, please let me know of that screen name Only -

Now a few legit programs for you to run -
You could list the Make and Model of computer and post a snapshot with Speccy as this may give us a bit more to look at -
Publish a Snapshot using Speccy << Follow These Directions

Next -
Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following boxes:

•Flush DNS
•Report IE Proxy Settings
•Reset IE Proxy Settings
•Report FF Proxy Settings
•Reset FF Proxy Settings
•List content of Hosts
•List IP configuration
•List last 10 Event Viewer log
•List Installed Programs
List devices >>(Problem only)<<
•List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
•List Minidump Files

Click Go and copy / paste the result (Result.txt) in your next reply -

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Thank You -

I cannot remember my old login which is why I created a new one. As for my computer, I am using a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 Service Pack 1. It is a Pentium Dual core with 64 bit OS.

Here is my speccy: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/QrUIvSBSoVPw8zHPKbWCuxd

Hello again - Ignore the "Reinstall comment" for now -

Just a quick question. Was there a CD or USB stick in the computer when you ran these scans ??

Some extra details are listed below for you -

These should be removed, or looked at severely, as they are old or suspect programs > >

µTorrent (Version: 3.1.3) - A prime open access for all infections
AVG Rewards (Version: 0.1) You run VIPRE so there is no need for AVG toolbars even Google drew a dead blank for it ??
Cozi (Version: 1.0.4323.24051) - Virtually no good information about this program. Just looks like a DUD ??

All older versions of Java should be removed when you finish the update - Current is 7 Update 10
Java™ 6 Update 20 (64-bit) (Version: 6.0.200)
Java™ 6 Update 33 (Version: 6.0.330)
Java 7 Update 7 (Version: 7.0.70)

Update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware version 1.65. It iss now Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.70

Minecraft Beta Cracked - µTorrent download ? not the legit version ?? This can cause infections

SUPERAntiSpyware (Version: 5.0.1148) is outdated, now Version 5.6.1014 Update these as often as you can remember.
Reinstall as there is a trial pro version with the next update, just be careful with the settings, they now offer a Add-on Toolbar you can untick.

SearchAmong Toolbar - Comments = This particular product is not fit to be reviewed by our informers - The program has been reported to be unavailable on a regular basis.

VIPRE Antivirus (Version: 4.0.3904) is a good program, but you must keep this updated. Not sure of current update.

From Application errors: The system is crying for CHKDSK to run due to File: C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\LOGONUI.EXE-F639BD7E.pf

Check Disk and System File Check -
To run CHKDSK, click Start Orb > type CMD > Right click it and select Run as Administrator > click OK > At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r, and then press ENTER. Agree to a disk check by typing Y and Reboot your computer - We can check results later if required.
This can take from 1 to 2 hours to run (on average) so please let it finish all 5 stages.

Next repeat the above sequence, but this time type in sfc /scannow and just press ENTER. About 15 mins to run.
Note that for both of these there is a space just prior to /

Motherboard - Dell Inc. 0G848F (Microprocessor): 51°C This is not yet too hot, but I would clean inside the computer, fans and dust filters.

System errors may be in some way caused by accessing µTorrent, or a similar program.

CodeIntegrity Errors show Windows is unable to verify the image integrity of the file \Device\HarddiskVolume3\ComboFix\catchme.sys because file hash could not be found on the system. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source.
These are 3 and 1 month ago if it means something to you ??
Catchme.sys is a legitimate rootkit detection tool used by several programs, including ComboFix. It is not malware, and will not cause you any harm if you leave it on your PC. Having said that, it's also not especially useful to you if you PC is clean, and will really only sit around taking up space, there's no need to keep it. Feel free to delete it if you wish, but know that it is not malware so you need not be concerned.

After you do these items, please run Quick MBAM and SAS scans and copy / paste the results back here -

OK I got rid of everything you wanted me to. Then I updated vipre, superantispyware, and malwarebytes and ran all three. Then I ran chkdsk last night which took over 9 hours to finish. And now it won't start up at all. I am replying on my tablet now so I may be slower to respond. Every time I try to start it up the windows startup repair comes up then cannot fix the issue which it says:
Root cause found: boot manager failed to find OS loader. Any help would be appreciated

Well -
I am checking what you have left (error message etc) but this sounds on "very first look" as your HDD is / was failing .........

Do you remember an error message similar to this - Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490 (it may have been 000x0000490 or similar also)
I would regard it as extremely rare for a disk ckeck to take longer than 2 hours if all was OK with the computer, sounds bad -
Your problems seem to be in the failing HDD catagory, at this time.

Can you enter Safe Mode by the F8 method ? If you can, select Last Known Good Config and press ENTER

I am also checking if you should try the Recovery Partition at this time (useless if HDD is failing)

When was the last time you made a Hard Copy back-up if needed, and also, if needed, do you have install CDs / DVDs ??

Thank You -

When it pulls up the recovery console, go to command prompt and type:

bootsect /nt60 C:\

This will attempt to repair the MBR (the table of contents for the operating system, so to speak)

Like nok said, this will be useless if the HDD is failing. That said, it might give you enough time to get in and back up any critical data you need.

I don't remember a specific error code. I have never made a hard copy backup though I do have install CDs. When I try last known good config it freezes at the windows startup screen. How bad are we talking? Like reinstall my OS bad or buy a new computer bad?

Reinstall or Repair install if the HDD is OK -

Do not panic yet !! :o
We are looking at if there are ways to recover the system first.

Come back in a while and I can check around for a bit -

Thanks -
