Thanks for taking time to look at this. I have followed your (before you post a hijackThis log) instructions to the letter and now I have this log to post.

I have been fighting this nasty malware for many weeks. I thought it was vundo or virtumundo, and ran what I thought was a successful fixer for that a while back, but the problem came right back. Slows the bleeping computer way down and I have pop ups for virus warnings that go to winfixer and ameana and one other, in spite of all the excellent blockers I use. Some times I get an adultfriendfinder pop up.

All along, I have been using most of the protection programs you recommend: adaware, spybot, and anti-virus software - and I run it and keep it up to date daily. It comes out clean most of the time. I tried toolbarcop and looking up the programs to disable bad ones...but I guess I don't know enough to be more than dangerous with it as it didn't work for me. I just added the free version Zonealarm, but was using the windowxp firewall before.

Here is the log I just ran. Thanks so much for any help you can give me. I will be happy to donate to your wonderful help site.

OK, here's the latest...and the computer is behaving itself now; I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I can't thank you enough for your help so far. After weeks of struggling I have hope that I'm getting closes to having my computer back. I also have hope that it will not run as slowly as it has been. FYI - I have donated to bleeping computer and I will donate more because you've been terrific. Also I will refer others to you. It looks like you have a booming business and I can see why.

:thumbsup:

I followed instructions and it appears now that all of those entries listed in the last post are no longer on the Hijack log.

When I booted the computer this morning just about every program froze up and I had difficulty getting the browser opened, so I am posting another log.

After closing non-responsive programs after booting up for about a half hour, the computer does seem to be functioning normally now.

Here is the newest log. Thank you!

Surf here: http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

To the field next to the "Browse" button, paste this:

C:\Program Files\TorCP\torcp.exe

Hit "Send", and post back with the results from the scanners. :thumbsup:

VirusTotal is a free service offered by Hispasec Sistemas. There are no guarantees about the availability and continuity of this service. Although the detection rate afforded by the use of multiple antivirus engines is far superior to that offered by just one product, these results DO NOT guarantee the harmlessness of a file. Currently, there is not any solution that offers a 100% effectiveness rate for detecting viruses and malware.

Glad I was able to help. :thumbsup:

Please read here how to clear old restore points and create a new one.

Stand Up and Be Counted ---> Malware Complaints <--- where you can make difference!

The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.

Here's some tips for future to prevent spyware;

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed. (My favourite)
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program <= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kaspersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall <= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser <= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice;
So how did I get infected in the first place? (My favourite)
