Hello! I am running Windows Vista on a Dell Inspiron 1545. For the past few days, my computer has frozen up a few minutes after booting. By this, I mean that all programs stop responding, I can't do anything but move the cursor, and I am forced to do a hard shut down. I have tried doing multiple system restores from different restore points, but this has not helped. Once, I was browsing the Internet and out of nowhere I got a blue screen with something about a memory dump (I wasn't able to read it in time!) which then restarted my computer. I also ran a malwarebytes full scan and it detected several malicious items, which I was able to remove. My computer works fine in safe mode. I am out of ideas and would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

Edit: just tried yet another system restore, which couldn't be completed because of a disc failure?

Please download BlueScreenView BlueScreenView

No installation required.

Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

The fact that MalwareBytes found several malicious items is not insignificant. I'm going to ask the staff to move this to the Am I Infected Forum.

Exact error message, please?

Does the system boot into Windows in safe mode right now, after the error message?

Louis

It says "system restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: there was a disk failure during the restore."
Also, at some point I got this message: "It says "windows has detected file system corruption on os c." I can't remember when this happened, but maybe it's helpful?
I was running safe mode while attempting the restore. Nothing happened after the error message.
