HP Pavilion dv9723cl
  • Windows 7 Professional 64
  • 4gb RAM
  • 320GB Hard Drive
  • Functions in Windows except for the following
  • Will not boot with battery connected
  • Boots and runs Windows and various distros of Linux without battery
  • Battery connected – black screen after “Starting Windows” with occasional hard drive access – never progresses
  • Disabling (not uninstalling) “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” through “Device Manager” allows the computer to boot and run on battery power alone. But when trying to “Shut Down” the computer gets stuck at “Shutting Down”. And I'm not sure that the battery charges with this disabled.
  • Replaced battery with known good (3 of them actually) – no change
