HP dv9000 CD/DVD Drive & Touchpad don't work

HP Pavilion dv9720us

Windows 7 Professional 64
4gb RAM
320GB Hard Drive
Functions fine in Windows except for the following 2 problems

  • DVD drive does not work
    • Not recognized in BIOS
    • Mechanics work fine (opens and closes normally)
    • Replaced with known good DVD drive no change
    • Replaced with known good SATA extender no change
    • Hard drive works (no problem with IDE channel)
    • USB DVD drive works
  • Touchpad does not work
    • Button on motherboard does not change from enabled/disabled
    • Replaced ribbon cable no change
    • Replaced Touchpad no change
    • USB Mouse works
