Command Prompt Help

ok my comp isnt loading windows... i was wundering if i could run a scan disk or sumthing to find the problem... but sence i cant get to desk top i was curious 2 know if i could run it useing command prompts...ive dun this be4 on myother comp and it werked, i got it working fine. but the older one is running 98 and im not sure if i can do the same with xp. if it is possible than i would appresiate it, if some one were to tell me the coorect commands to do so... greatly. thanx 4 ure time.

Try hitting the F8 key while it's booting and get the menu - choose "Boot from Last Known Good Configuration." That's a good place to start.
