Good afternoon everyone,

A friend of mine is getting me a refurbished Dell Optiplex 755 Desktop computer running Win 7 Pro, 64-bit. I presently have a Dell Dimension 3000 Desktop running Win XP Pro, 32-bit.

Among the various Program Files on this XP are some games, a password manager program, WINRAR, PopPeeper, itunes, etc, etc.

My questions:

1. Is it possible to transfer/copy these Program Folders/Files from the XP machine to the Win 7 computer, or does the bit size difference preclude this?

2. If possible, what is the simplest way to accomplish this?

(I'm certainly no technical genius).

Many thanks for your time and any suggestions! :busy:

Programs must be either installed or cloned to a different hard drive...it is not possible to "copy" a program in any other fashion, due to the way Windows works. For a program to work properly, you need related registry items, it's not as simple as copying a file/folder.

Cloning will only work when the hard drive is to be used on the same system with the same hardware. In such cases, the entire partition/drive is an exact copy made to a different partition/drive.

I appreciate the information, Louis!

I sort of suspected this might be the case, but I figured it better to at least "ask"...just to be sure.

Best wishes for a nice holiday season!
