Geminids are pieces of debris from an extinct comet called 3200 Phaethon. Earth runs into a stream of debris from 3200 Phaethon every year in mid-December, causing meteors to fly from the constellation Gemini.

December 13 is its anticipated peak. Tonight we have a moonless sky to increase the viewability with even the naked eye. You will have to look eastwars toward the constellation Gemini.

From 10 p.m. CST Thursday to 2 a.m. Friday (Dec. 13-14), NASA Television will air live video from a skyward-aimed astronomy camera at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.,
