I just re-installed WinXP on a new hard disk. A firewall has been immediately installed (ZoneAlarm) and the HD scanned with Ewido, AVG and Panda on-line. several spywares and viruses have been detected but the computer keeps re-booting when scanning.
Could any helpful people guide in getting rid of them?

Hello and welcome to the site.. :thumbsup:

Lets get started.

==

Click Start -> Run and type in:

services.msc

Click "OK".

In the services window find service; wins(WINS) <= Might have only one Wins in it.

Right-click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then "Ok". Exit the Services utility.

==

Next, please click Start -> Run and type in: sc delete wins

Hit ok and reboot.

==

After reboot, delete the following file if present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\winscntrl.exe

Empty recycle bin and post back with a fresh HijackThis log. :flowers:

Many thanks for your kind reply.

In the meantime my computer is complete out-of-control as I cannot even start WinXP (not even in safe mode). In the beginning it rebooted after a few minutes, then after a few 10 seconds, now it does not even start Win.
I tried to follow your procedure by using this hard disk as a slave on another PC but I could not find the wins(WINS) in the services window. I use the French version of WinXP, would it explain it? The description of the service might eventually help finding it (?).
Is there any way to heal my PC?
Sincere thanks in advance.

I finally could delete Wins(WINS) and follow the rest of the procedure!

But these unexpected re-booting still continue (after a few minutes to a few tens of minutes). Can it be due to CPU overheating (CPU temp: 48°C)?

That's more than likely.. Considering your logs are looking good.
