My computer hangs on boot and sometimes boots to a black screen and I have to go to task manager and restart explorer. Once I arrive at the desktop I'll try to open any program and the computer has to sit anywhere from 60seconds-120seconds. After that initial period the computer appears to work just fine. Windows was installed with AHCI enabled on boot drive. I have also reinstalled windows and I am still experiencing problems. A 3+min boot for a relatively good ssd is disappointing.
My computer specifications are:
1 x Rosewill THOR V2 Gaming ATX Full Tower Computer Case, support up to E-ATX / XL-ATX, come with Four Fans - 1 x Front Red LED 230mm Fan, 1 x Top 230mm Fan, 1 x Side 230mm Fan, 1 x Rear 140mm Fan
1 x ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
1 x AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8350FRHKBOX

1 x EVGA 02G-P4-2678-KR GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
1 x G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH

Im experiencing similar issues with my system. It is not as robust as timreed1's but is starting to become very annoying.

Should I start a new thread for my similar problem?

That would be the courteous...proper...thing to do. Ask yourself how you would feel if you started a topic...and someone thrust their issues into your topic, which was still unresolved and awaiting suggestions/comments.

I also have a rig like yours, ASUS, Sabortooth, more ram less cpu.

It was fine until a week or two ago. I'd have startup and shutdown issues. Nothing big, just slow or hung.

I updated the BIOS after reading about others having issues randomly and this seems to have cleared things up.

You can also check out the ROG board as they deal with ASUS gaming systems and offer support, patches, and keep an eye on updates.

Otherwise I'll leave you with Hamluis.

From what I see...your Asus drivers are throwing the majority of the errors that you posted.

OTOH...there seems to be prominent mention of MS.NET on instances of some of your errors that I have reviewed.

Although you cite "explorer.exe problems", I see no documentation re such.

HDD Node Index errors are new to me...see http://speedtestpro.net/hddspeedtest.htm , such would indicate a hard drive diagnostic test needed to my inexperienced brain.

I'll move your topic to Internal Hardware where the more knowledgeable can try to assist.

I went ahead and updated the mobo bios to the recent release on 12/7/2012. That hasn't seemed to fix my boot issue. I ran some hard drive diagnostic to see what the results would be and haven't found anything wrong as of yet.

Assuming maybe related I also just received a couple STOP 0X0000024 BSOD's while trying to play borderlands 2. If I'm not mistaking STOP 0X0000024 BSOD is usually a memory problem but can also indicate hard drive trouble as well. So I ran memtest86 for 8 hours with 4 passes and no fail although it was running my DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000)(9-11-10-28) at DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) (1-1-1-3) which I'm assuming memtest is just having trouble reading the memory. Bios and CPU-Z both indicate DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000)(9-11-10-28). My rig is falling appart! Quick get the hammer!

Ntfs.sys missing or corrupt error message - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555531

Fix Windows XP ntfs.sys Errors Using a Linux LiveCD eHow.com - http://www.ehow.com/how_4690469_ntfssys-errors-using-linux-livecd.html

Stop 24 errors have nothing to do with memory...generally, they indicate a file problem...a file system problem...or even a hard drive problem that impacts Windows, resulting in errors.

Only way to find out which...is to eliminate candidates, one by one.

First step would be to try running the chkdsk /r command. If it's a correctable file problem, then chkdsk /r may resolve it.

If it's a NTFS file system problem...that's a little harder to resolve, IMO. The file system is what Windows lies upon and repairing it is something I've not been successful in doing. Some users use tools like Test Disk to try to overcome NTFS file system issues.

A hard drive can be tested, using a reliable diagnostic tool. The hard drive manufacturers normally make such tools available at their respective websites, as a courtesy to users and as a prerequisite for customers attempting to return hard drives as problemeatical.

I've gone ahead and done chkdsk and used the software samsung provided to check the hard drive. Everything is coming back clean which is bugging the heck out of me because it shouldn't be too difficult but apparently today it is. If it is a NTFS prob then bleh... I can live.

I finally had enough money to buy new cables for my 3 24 inch monitors (2 dvi and 1 hdmi-dvi). The computer seems to start with less problems. Of the twenty reboots only three had problems. One hang and two explorer.exe reboots. Don't really know why having three monitors vs. one would make any difference but it seems to help.
