I am having issues with a few programs, namely Google Chrome, IE 9, and Windows Media Player, that just plain refuse to run. Every time I try to open any of them, I get the "a problem has caused the program to stop working correctly" message, so I have to hit the "close" link. I have tried fixing this issue with iolo's System Mechanic, but it doesn't work. I always keep all my programs as well as my OS updated, so I don't think that's the issue, and I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Chrome and IE, but to no avail. All other programs work just fine. I have scoured Google far and wide, but have yet to find the answer to my problem. Any suggestions?

Specs:

-Acer Aspire 5515, running 2.0GHz AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
-2GB RAM
-Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Programs I usually have running:

-Comodo Internet Security
-Zemana Antilogger Free
-ExploitShield
-Secunia PSI

Please remove System Mechanic from your system.

Then...Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Type Y in new screen and and hit Enter. Reboot, the command will run before booting into Windows.

Then...

Please download MiniToolBox , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 .

<<Description: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:

Uninstall Comodo Internet Security...use the Windows firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials in lieu of the Comodo product.

<<Error: (12/12/2012 01:54:31 AM) (Source: Service Control Manager) (User: )
Description: The iolo System Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).>>

I'd go to services (Start/Run...type xervices.msc and hit Enter) and manually disable that.

I would disable SearchIndexer.exe,
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/28450/what-is-searchindexer.exe-and-why-is-it-running/ .

<<ZeroVulnerabilityLabs ExploitShield version 0.8.1 beta>>>

I believe there may be correlations between beta software and system problems that occur on my systems...I suggest uninstalling this until it's ready for prime time.

You are running Win 7 with 2GB of RAM...just a tad unusual. 2GB is the MS-recommended minimum for 64-bit Win 7 and that means that the system will run but cannot be expected to be compared to a system with more than the designated minimum.

Since you had Iolo products and other potentially troublesome apps installed...I think that you have a good chance of file corruption and/or missing files. I'd run the sfc /scannow command.

SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot - Windows 7 Forums - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139810-sfc-scannow-run-command-prompt-boot.html

SFC -SCANNOW Command - System File Checker - Windows 7 Forums - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

SFC scannow, Win 7 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Max temperature for that CPU appears to be 69-71 Celsius, your listing is at 62, which is high.

My general impression is that you are asking this system to do things it was never meant to do, as presently constructed.

Louis

I uninstalled iolo Sys. Mech, am now using Microsoft Security Essentials instead of Comodo, disabled Exploit Shield, ran SCANNOW and stopped Search Indexer. On top of all that, I installed the Windows repair program from this site's download section (just in case) and ran it. I don't know what fixed my issues, but all 3 programs are up and running again, not to mention my computer as a whole seems to be running a lot better. Thanks for all your help, Louis :)

Now that your system is running smoothly (Good job Louis!) let me add as louis already noted add more RAM, it's cheap enough these days IMHO.

Speccy:

Memory slots
Total memory slots: 2
Used memory slots: 1
Free memory slots: 1

Memory
Type: DDR2
Size: 2048 MBytes
...

Physical Memory
Memory Usage: 70 %
Total Physical: 1.87 GB
Available Physical: 573 MB
Total Virtual: 3.75 GB
Available Virtual: 2.11 GB

Furthermore: >>>I have tried fixing this issue with iolo's System Mechanic<< equals Something like this:whistle:

Ya know, I tried adding more RAM, but my computer won't even start with the 2nd stick installed. I did a Crucial scan before I bought it, so I have no idea why it won't boot up with 4GB. BTW, LMAO @ your link, Thug....duly noted;)

LOL glad you took it in the right "spirit" :P

Could be a bad stick and/or slot? Test RAM with Memtest86+ here's a good tut: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

BTW here's a better link (IMHO) for the same song
