Hi bleepingcomputer,

I've been suffering from BSODs for the past few months. Here are my system specs:

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: AMD FX™-4100 Quad-Core Processor, AMD64 Family 21 Model 1 Stepping 2
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 8174 Mb
Graphics Card: HD 7850
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd., M68MT-S2
Antivirus: McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, Updated and Enabled
PSU: 500w Coolermaster

On to my actual problem and what I have done so far:

At least once every two days my computer will BSOD (there were 4 yesterday). The error is, according to WhoCrashed

On Wed 12/5/2012 6:23:51 AM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: Unknown ()
Bugcheck code: 0x124 (0x0, 0xFFFFFA8007FEB028, 0xB0800000, 0xC0E0F)
Error: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
Bug check description: This bug check indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. This bug check uses the error data that is provided by the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA).
This is likely to be caused by a hardware problem problem. This problem might be caused by a thermal issue.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: Unknown .
Google query: Unknown WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

Generally, I get these BSODs while gaming and I believe it's not the GPU because my computer still BSODs with an older card. I spend most of my time on this computer gaming, so I'm not sure if that is actually causing the BSODs.

This is driving me nuts. Since this is apparently a hardware error, I've been trying to rule out my hardware. I have:

1. ran memtest for 6 passes overnight
2. swapped out my GPU with an older one (HD 6670)
3. bought a new PSU (500w should be sufficient according to the research I've done)
4. I also occasionally get a CLOCK WATCHDOG TIMEOUT BSOD. The description of the error points to the processor, so I ran IntelBurntest on Standard, High and Very High. My CPU was stable according to HWMonitor.

So basically: I ruled out the RAM, PSU and GPU, leaving the hard drive, motherboard and CPU. I'm open to replacing one of these parts, but I really want to make sure it will help with the problem. I would really like this problem fixed

Thanks for your time!

Hello,

Two things to try;

1. Make sure all your drivers are up to date
2. Check the operating temp of your CPU, speedfan is a good utility you can get it here.

The common cause of your BSOD is overheating. You should look inside your case and make sure all fans are working and clear of dust. Make sure your heatsink on your CPU is not clogged with dust and make sure that fan is functioning properly.

Hi,

1. I will try to update what needs updating.
2. My CPU temps are all normal; even when stressing them with IntelBurntest, they never went above 60 degrees Celsius. They're sitting at 30 degrees idle right now.

I have been opening my case frequently since these BSODs happened, removing and reseating hardware. I cleaned out the dust multiple times - and my fans are working well.

Thanks...I don't see anything enlightening for me.

Let's try this, in an effort to go back to the beginning.

Download/install BlueScreenView, http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html .

Double-click BlueScreenView.exe file.

When autoscan is done (screen comes up), click Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items.

Save the report as BSOD.txt.

Open BSOD.txt, copy all content and paste it into your next reply.

I did what you asked - but there are much fewer dmp files than I had crashes. Either some of the BSODs didn't create a .dmp file or they somehow got deleted?
Anyway, here it is:

<<Either some of the BSODs didn't create a .dmp file or they somehow got deleted?>>

CCleaner (Version: 3.22), check the setting for items to be deleted.

Alright let's see (I came across that post several times while googling my error)...

1. The GPU was bought overclocked. I reverted it back to stock a while ago, and I still BSOD'd.
2. No overheating problems - temps are all normal, even under stress.
3. All drivers should be updated...is there a way/program that can list driver versions/dates? I hate navigating the device manager. If not, I'll go through it again tomorrow and update what I can.
4. My BIOS is updated, for sure.
5. I update Windows regularly.
6. I ran memtest for at least 6 passes a few weeks ago. I realize I should do more passes but I didn't have the time - I will come back to this if we still can't narrow the problem down. I used IntelBurntest for my CPU - no problems. Used Furmark to stress my GPU - no problems. Replaced stock PSU with 500w CoolerMaster - no problems.
7. Feels like a last resort to me - I'll consider this as well if nothing else can be done.

Again, these BSODs generally happen while I am gaming - I'm still not sure if gaming causes them, but as far as I can remember, I never BSOD'd unless there is a game open on my computer. But I have substituted the GPU with a 6670 and the problem persists.

I feel like I should note that my brother is using the exact same hardware with no problems.

It may seem like I am uncooperative or reluctant to perform any of the long/tedious tests, but at this point I am so tired of the problem that I would rather replace the offending hardware - are there further steps I can take to narrow the problem down? If not, I will bite the bullet and test each piece of hardware I have to...after finals, however.

As always, I really appreciate your help!

If they generally happen while gaming...first suspect would be video drivers.

I would uninstall the current ones...then reinstall same or updated video drivers.

Hi, sorry for the delay.

That was my first suspicion as well, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple times before asking for help here.
