Hopefully I don't get any hate for my crappy pc, but oh well if I do. Buying a new pc isn't an option right now and even if it was I don't want to spend the money on it. I would be willing to save money to upgrade my psu and graphics card if it will get me better performance, but I want to know what is compatible. My cpu never runs over about 40-70% not matter what I am playing and that is with my pc set to high performance. I am guessing it is my gpu throttling my pc, but I'm not sure. I tested with Open Hardware Monitor in the background while playing games in windowed mode.

I have an AMD A6-3650 APU with an integrated 6530D card. As you can imagine the card isn't the greatest. I can run most games decently except when it comes to games on the Unreal Engine and other high graphics games. I would like a card that I can have 1680x1050 and I don't care if all settings have to be low, I would just like to be able to play games like Chivalry at a decent framerate with my default resolution. My motherboard specs are here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c03329340 . The PSU is only 300W. Idk if I would need another fan/fans either so any help on that would be great.

I only want to upgrade the psu and graphics card, everything else should be fine for now. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. If you need any more info just let me know and I will update post as soon as I can.

What is your budget? Are there any other games you play?

No real budget, I am just gonna save until I have the money. Yeah I have a lot of games on Steam, over a 100. I would also like to be able to play games Far Cry 3 and Borderlands 2. I don't care about having ultra settings I just want it to be where I don't have to play 800x600 and tweak the hell out of the game just to get it to be 40-60 fps.

Does it matter that the slots on the motherboard are only second gen and the card is 3.0? I have to save a bit so I will probably miss the Far Cry 3 deal on that card. 200-300 is probably about what I am willing to pay so if that is the best card for the price I will save up for it. Is that all I will need for the psu or should I go a little higher wattage to be safe?

No, as PCI-E is backward compatible. If you wanted to go another step up then the this 7950 with rebates would make it $280. A 550W would do but it's up to you with you want more wattage.

If a 550W will work then that is fine. I will compare the two and figure out what I want to save for. Thanks for the suggestions these should work perfect and now I know what I want to get.

Which Compaq PC do you have? Many desktop PC's have a slimline case which could make upgrading a bit more tricky. A standard case should have no issues with upgrading to standard PSU's and GPU's.

p6-2143w, but it is the same case as that one. I took off the side panel and there is a lot of room for the card. The power supply would probably be tight or not fit at all so I might have to get another one a bit smaller. I will have to actually measure it later

As long as the power supply is a standard ATX then it should fit.
