The problem is that once the external mic is plugged in my laptop does not recognize it anywhere

Please Note:
I am on a Laptop with a two jacks one for output(Headphone symbol) and one for input(Mic symbol)
Running Windows 7 (64bit)

I do have the internal mic working but the problem arrises with a Exteral Mic
The box says that the mic is compatible with laptops

When i plug in the mic "Realtek HD Audio Manager" Pops up:

When i try selecting "Mic In" it closes and i can find no trace of it on my computer including in the recording devices window:

The mic that you see there is the internal mic [NOTE: when the external mic is plugged in the internal mic does not work]

I have also tried selecting "Line In" instead of "Mic In"(Don't know if this applies at all) with this result:

but this does not seem to do anything either.

Please note i have tried to right click and "show disabled and disconnected devices"

Here is the microphone window in "Realtek" just in case it may help:

I believe that i have updated drivers but i may be incorrect

also looking through tons of other forums ive found that the "Realtek HD Audio Manger" has problems with mic but mostly on Desktop PC with a front and back jack panel.

Any help would be appreciated

From your second image, recording tab - Plug the external mic and try to voice test and check the gray bar graph if there is a green indicator from the shown default device icons.
