Hello....Somehow I managed to get Win32.Trojan.Downloader and haven't had anyluck getting rid of it. I've tried adaware and brute force uninstaller in safe mode, but isn't doing the trick. Any help would be much appreciated. The only side effects I've noticed is that when I click on a link sent through AIM it opens up my C:\Program Files\AIM95 window and every time I try and open photoshop it tells me I don't have the proper priveleges to use it (not sure if thats related to the trojan or not).

Thanks in advanced

Here is my Hijack This log report.

Hello and welcome to the forum. You have a bunch of junk on your computer. Start with this one:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe and read the links:
http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
http://www.greatis.com/appdata/u/v/viewmgr.exe.htm
http://www.spywareinfo.com/newsletter/arch...4.php#viewpoint

and this one: C:\Program Files\Common Files\PSD Tools\ChannelUp.exe read about it:
http://castlecops.com/startuplist-2857.html
http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp...&virus_k=101007

I do not see an active antivirus program running one this computer? It is cybersuicide going online without one.
We are both wasting out time cleaning this computer until you have at least this basic protection. If you need a free program, try this one:
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php Download, update, install and run a complete system scan. Post the complete name and pathway of any item AVG can not remove.
Make sure you stay with "free" avoid all trials and paid versions.

You have a lot more junk that needs to go also, but if you want help uninstall the two programs I posted above and take care of the antivirus situation. I suggest you keep this computer offline as much as possible as these infections will attract others. Once you have completed those instructions, post a new HJT log.

Thanks...pskelley

Hello, thanks a lot for helping me out with this. I got rid of ViewPoint Manager and PSD Tools using RegRun, installed AVG and ran that, and then ran HiJack This. Here are the results:

I'm also considering using GAIM instead of AOL's AIM. Good idea? Or am I ok with AIM now? Assuming I don't update my AIM (which I haven't since I got installed it about 3 years ago).

Thanks again, your help is much appreciated.

Thanks for putting an active antivirus program in place. We will look at the items AVG located if they are not removed during the cleaning process. Please follow the instructions in the posted order.

1) Please assure me this is a safe program: C:\Program Files\War-ftpd\war-ftpd.exe

2) ewido scan:
Please download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(The R's are clutter and not making your browser work better, I suggest you remove them but you can keep the junk if you wish)

If you don't have a good cleaner, use this free one with these instructions:
Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

Restart the computer and post the ewido scan report, a new HJT log, any information I requested and any comments you have you think will help. We may have more to do?

I am sorry, I have never used GAIN, and I remove anything involving aol from my computer as soon as I get it home.

Thanks...Phil
