Hello all

I have recently been having some major problems with my Windows Vista, in that it crashes randomly with a blue screen error.

When it restarts I get the message: "Microsoft has recovered from and unexpected shutdown."

It also says the following:

Files that help describe the problem (some files may no longer be available)
Mini112512-01.dmp
WER-437021-0.sysdata.xml
WER558E.tmp.version.txt

I have seen that in other posts complaining of Blue Screen Errors you have asked for a log from BlueScreenView - so here are mine for your perusal.

Hi hncanni819
Bug Check Code 0x000000f7 shows this:
:A driver has overrun a stack-based buffer. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this machine.:
Make sure you have all the latest Windows Updates installed. Then run a Check Disk, and let it repair.

Hello hcanni819,

Let's see if we can help you with your computer BSOD problem. These problems are often not simple so gathering as much information about your computer will be important.

1. ) Please download the following two files to your Documents folder.
2. ) Navigate to your Documents folder.
  • Right click on BSOD_Windows7_Vista_v2.64_jcgriff2_.exe and select, Run as administrator.
  • This will run autoruns as well and will create a new folder, Windows7_Vista_jcgriff2, within your Documents.
3. ) Run a System Health Report
  • Click START -> type perfmon /report , then click perfmon /report at top of column. .
  • After data collection, click File -> save as perfmon.html in your newly created "Documents\Windows7_Vista_jcgriff2" folder.
4. ) Zip up the Windows7_Vista_jcgriff2 folder.
  • Right click on the folder and select Send to --> Compressed (zipped) folder.
5. ) Please upload the zipped folder to a File Sharing website of your choosing because Bleeping Computer has a 512 K only upload limit and this file will be much larger.

In addition: To help us get a better look at your computer's hardware, please download and install Speccy by Piriform. (mirror site)
  • During installation, uncheck "Install the free Google Toolbar along with Speccy."
  • Run Speccy and from the top menu, select File --> Publish Snapshot. Click "Yes" to proceed.
  • Click, Copy to Clipboard and paste this address into your next post.

Regards,
Brooks

Hi ArtRooks

Many thanks for your response. I have carried out the above steps and here are the links for your perusal:

Here's the zipped file as requested: http://depositfiles.com/files/a5svlo7li

http://speccy.piriform.com/results/hGDEKyJuq6Z501od2WwMo6P is the Speccy information.

Looking forward to your response!

hcanni819,

Four of the more recent BSODs were STOP 0x0000008E errors.

STOP 0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Usual causes: Insufficient disk space, Device driver, Video card, BIOS, Breakpoint in startup without having a debugger attached, Hardware incompatibility, Faulty system service, 3rd party remote control, Memory
http://www.carrona.org/bsodindx.html#0x0000008E

From Speccy Snapshot:
Hard Drives
ST350062 0AS SCSI Disk Device
Manufacturer: Seagate
Used Space: 432GB (95%)
Free Space: 25.8GB (5%)

1. ) Most feel that your computer requires at least 15% free space from a performance and functional stand point; 20-25% free space is even better. You need to free up at least another 50 GBs of space by offloading files to other media; more if you can manage.

2. ) It looks as if you have remnants (drivers) of Symantec on your computer. If you no longer use Norton, please download and run the Norton Removal Tool for the product you had installed.

3. ) There were a number of Bugcheck D1 that involved a Realtec network driver, an old Symantec (Norton) driver, and AVG.

BugCheck D1, {4, 2, 1, 8e2e6630}

4. ) Rtlh86.sys is a Realtek network driver and is fairly old. See if you can find an update from Packard-Bell. If not, try Realtek site: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=7&PFid=10&Level=3&Conn=2

  • From Speccy Snapshot:
  • Adapters List: Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)

5. ) AVG Anti-Virus can cause BSODs on certain systems.
  • Suggestion: Temorarily uninstall AVG as a test. If it proves not the cause of your problems, it can be re-installed later.
  • If it was purchased, please make sure that you have the appropriate registration information before uninstalling.
  • First, uninstall via Control Panel -> (view: by large icons) Programs and features.
  • Second, download and run the appropriate AVG Uninstall Utility found here. Restart the computer.

In the mean time, please download and install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). MSE is an effective anti-virus program and is known for it's stability. Used in conjunction with Malwarebytes Anti-malware, as an on-demand scanner, you will be protected.

Hi ArtRooks

Thank you very much for your help. I had no idea that having a full hard drive would cause a computer so much stress!

I have found a new Ethernet driver, removed Norton and removed AVG now, so I will give this a whirl for a bit and see how it goes.

Thanks again, and I hope this is the end of this matter!

Cheers
Andy
