Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

When I run the program nothing appears in the screen says zero crashes. I believe I was instructed before when I had a trojen to turn off dump files because they could be used against me ??

<<I believe I was instructed before when I had a trojen to turn off dump files because they could be used against me ??>>

I won't even ask...who told you such...and wonder how dump files could ever "be used against you" :). Suffice it to say that you should be careful about what human beings throw you way as "advice".

Please download MiniToolBox , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 .

I don't think it was anyone on this board.

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel (Start>Control Panel in Vista).
2. Double-click System.
3. Click (Advanced system settings link in Vista, then --->)the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
4. Make sure, there is a checkmark in Write an event to the system log.
5. In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (64k) (128K in Windows 7).

Then when 3-4 BSODs happen re-run BSV.

<<CCleaner (Version: 3.25)>>

That's why you have no minidump files...above program automatically deletes such. In the eyes of the program developer, these files were considered "useless"...which is an error of judgment by the devopers.

<<FrostWire 4.21.3 (Version: 4.21.3.0): File-sharing app, increases risk of malware, in the opinion of many.

Norton PC Checkup (Version: 2.0.4.131) is part of paid Norton Live services. If you aren't paying, it's not doing you any good. http://us.norton.com/nortonlive/free-pc-checkup.jsp . Even if you are paying, I suggest uninstalling this.

Norton Security Suite (Version: 5.2.2.3), I suggest uninstalling this and leaving Microsoft Security Essentials and using the Windows firewall.

Uninstall Hijack This...it's outdated and not used at BC for malware situations.

Re your NET Framework errors...see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976982 .

Uninstall Spybot...you have SUPERAntiSpyware installed, which is superior to Spybot.

After the above...run the chkdsk /r command. Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Type Y in new screen and hit Enter. Reboot, the command will execute before booting into Windows.

That's only true if you check that option. Everything in CCleaner is optional. Also, if CCleaner and its Clean Option have not been run since the problems occurred then nothing will have been deleted by it.

I've had some problems with the .NET framework updates (installing but reappearing on list next Windows Update). These updates seem to be quite a common issue. John (the?) baptist, did you make any changes to your system prior to these issues occurring? Other than the Windows Update, things are running normally? You always have the choice of deselecting that particular update, though it would be nice to find the cause.

Edit: Personally I would not use the Windows Firewall. In XP there is no option to stop outbound connections (there is a limited option in Vista and Win7). I always want to have control over applications that want to phone home. ET is out of luck in my household.

Edit2: John baptist, in case you didn't notice, the update was having issues with Visual Studio 8 setup. You can find further info on 0x80070643 here. I vaguely recollect going through some of that with my stuff, all to no avail. But, you never know.......

I have deleted all the requested programs other then Norton Security Suite (Version: 5.2.2.3). I did not know that Microsoft Security Essentials is also for virus protection I thought it was just for spyware. So it is okay to get rid of Norton and just use M S E...I have tried all Microsoft fixes for the problem with no luck. I am preparing for a reboot and run chkdsk r. chk Did find and repaired a file. I am still getting error message about visual studio 8 I removed that program over 3 months ago???

Hi folks,

@ John. After you uninstall Norton from your Add/Remove programs please install the Norton Product Removal Tool and be sure, as always, to uncheck any prechecked software offered with the installation. If you are presented with the option to choose a custom install, please do that.

After you uninstall Norton, try to update again just to make sure that multiple AV's wasn't the cause though I'm quit sure it wasn't.

In Nanobytes link, try the MS Fix it under More Information. You may have to click on where it says Click here to view or hide detailed information to find the MS Fix it link.

If that doesn't work, scroll upwards to Resolution and try those solutions, as well.

Great!

Is the update for:

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2729450)

the only update that fails to install?

Also, if you would please provide the log for chkdsk.

To find the log that is produced please do the following:

  • Reboot the computer.
  • Click on Start then Control Panel
  • In Control Panel click on Administrative Tools
  • Click on Event Viewer
  • Once the Event Viewer opens, click on Application in the left pane
  • In the right pane locate the Winlogon entry under the Source column that corresponds with the time that Checkdisk was ran.
  • Double click on it and a window will open.
  • Click on the save to clipboard button

This will save the log till you paste it in your next reply.
