Hi

Recently I've been getting a "windows cannot find the specified file, please make sure that you have typed the name correctly and please try again." error message every time I try an open any file named setup.exe or uninst.exe.

I have scanned this PC with AVG, Avast, Malware Bites and IObit to no avail.

I believe the problem first surfaced when un-installing AVG and the Tune Up Utilities program and then installing Avast.

I believe system restore solved the problem for a short while but this doesn't work any-more.

Welcome to BC.

Try running sfc /scannow

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces corrupted and incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Go to Start, click on All Programs, click on Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Hi dc3 - thanks for the reply.

I ran sfc /scannow as an admin: - Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations

There is a article at the Microsoft Community website which may help with this issue.

The following is from the article at the Microsoft Community website which the link takes you to:

"If still the error persists please provide us the error log: List any events that are listed as "Error" in the main window when you go to "Windows Logs" and "Application." There are often a lot of them. Send us whichever ones you see listed for the last couple days. (Please also do for the logs in "System"). When you do, provide us the name of the "Source" and whatever is listed in the description box below the list of logs when you click on one."
If the error does persist after method 2, please post the error log here in this topic.

Edit: I read something which had me a little confused, there is no Windows 7 Media Center edition.

Just seen what you mean by source. I think all the system errors were "Service Control Manager" and all the applications were "Application error"
