Welcome to BC.

I would be helpful if you post the model of this PB computer, and the operating system you are using.

What kind of problems were you experiencing that made you decide to use the recovery disc?

Was the hdd that came with this laptop a SATA?

When you got the glue 5 error did you try pressing F11?

My dumb question...you do have your BIOS set to boot from your CD/DVD drive first? From what I can tell that error message occurs when a a non bootable device/corrupted files are found.

I was curious about the glue error, and turned this up with a google search ....

When I did a search for this I found references to the reformat and tattoo, but they were so vague that I couldn't make much sense of them. What was interesting was the number of topics found that had this same error.

Nice find!

Please do the following:
(the screenshots are from Windows XP, but things will be essentially the same in Vista)

Get a look at the error message presented by the BSOD (blue screen of death) ....
  • Start tapping the F8 key after you press the ON button, and continue tapping until you are presented with the "Advanced Boot Options" menu screen.

    Posted Image
  • Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and press the <ENTER> key.
  • Your system will attempt to restart normally, but when it crashes, it will not re-start: Instead, you will see a BSOD with error message.

    Posted Image
  • Record the error message details (contained in the areas outlined in red, in the above example image), and post in your reply.
