somehow most of my programs are gone. when i click on the start menu for instance "all programs" is lost. There is virtually nothing i can do in the control panel either. The add/remove programs is there but the box is empty. When I click on the internet which should go right to yahoo, it instead comes up with something from my temporary file, yahoo tries to load but its a bit odd looking. If i try to click on something in the sidebar, such as Games, horoscopes, etc...it won't load...but if i type it in the search window it will come up. Virus scans, malaware, ccleaner, etc are working and claim everything is fine. My explorer icon in the start window and now on my desktop states "without add ons". Where did that come from out of nowhere? I am not very computer literate, i know a little, enough to get by with normal everyday problems but i dont even know where to start with this one. I mistakenly did a combofix log already before I realized I wasnt supposed to until told. So I won't post that until I'm asked to. Another thing missing is my start run search window. I can get to it by holding the windows key down and hitting R however. This is not my original computer. I got it from a friend who took pretty good care of it. So logging in safe mode as administrator is out because if i need a password for that i can't get it. It seems to me the whole thing happened after playing game on facebook. Bad idea i know now. But like I said, the Avast virus program says im fine so i dont know if it was actually a virus or not. I also wanted to point out that in the control panel my device manager is also empty. There is so much stuff missing I dont know how I'm even able to get on the internet at all. Any suggestions?

Hello, if you still need help here... DO NOT run a Temp File or Registry cleaner..

Please download the following program to your desktop:

Unhide.exe

Once the program has been downloaded, double-click on the Unhide.exe icon on your desktop and allow the program to run. This program will remove the +H, or hidden, attribute from all the files on your hard drives. If there are any files that were purposely hidden by you, you will need to hide them again after this tool is run.

Having already run ComboFix we to see that log as it may have removed things you didn;t want to. Also a DDS log fromthis guide if you can and post them both in a new topic as explained in step 7.
Please follow this Preparation Guide and post in a new topic.

Let me know if all went well.

How do I get help? Who is helping me?For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear....Become a BleepingComputer fan: Facebook

You're welcome!!

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRL Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

The current wait time is 1 - 2 days and ALL logs are answered.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.
