Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

Posted Image In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/475395 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

Posted Image If you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

Hello coxchris and welcome to the MRT forum!

Sorry for the delay in response, we can get overloaded at times but I will stay with you until the end in this forum.

My name is bloopie and I'll be helping you with your problems as best I can! :thumbup2:

A few things to keep in mind while we are working together:

  • If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, I would appreciate it if you let me know.
  • If you are unsure about any of the steps just post what you can and I will guide you!
  • Please copy and paste all logs here unless otherwise instructed!
  • Upon completing the steps below I will review your topic an do my best to resolve your issues.
  • If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.

==========

I am guessing you still have the CD/DVD not working?

Step :step1:

Run Combofix

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
  • Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you C:\Combofix.txt. Please include that in your next reply.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

==========

Step :step2:

Download Windows Repair (all in one) from this site

Install the program then run it.

Go to Step 2 and allow it to run CheckDisk by clicking on Do It button:

Posted Image

Once that is done then go to Step 3 and allow it to run System File Check by clicking on Do It button:

Posted Image

Go to Step 4 and under "System Restore" click on Create button:

Posted Image

Go to Start Repairs tab and click Start button.

Posted Image

Please ensure that ONLY items seen in the image below are ticked as indicated (they're all checked by default):

Posted Image

Click on box next to the Restart System when Finished. Then click on Start.

==========

In your next reply, please include the following:

  • The Combofix log
  • How is the computer running now?

Hi again,

Interesting... I'd like you to run FSS next and post the log:

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.
  • Make sure the following options are checked:

    • Internet Services
    • Windows Firewall
    • System Restore
    • Security Center/Action Center
    • Windows Update
    • Windows Defender
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

bloopie,

Thank you for your continue support I have some new information but Its weird

I re-enable the CD-emulation programs temporary via Defrogger and it started to play DVDs (star-trek) but not CD-Roms So Its confusing me

So I look up the Drive in Device Manager and found the drive leading me into Supported Formats and found this http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/P167985/en/spec.htm

Please note This computer isn't dell.

So Interesting stuff.

I will wait until you provide me with information. I can re-enable the CD-emulation if you want but to test I am going to leave it be for you

Thank you for helping me with this tonight See you later

Hi again, and Happy Thanksgiving! :)

Sorry for the delay...thanksgiving things happening over here.

Do you know if this machine is supposed to have a proxy set? And are you able to get on the internet with this machine now?

==========

After answering my above questions, I'd like you to run the Windows Repair tool again but this time, make sure only the below options are checked:

  • Repair Hosts File
  • Repair CD/DVD Missing/Not Working

Once finished, make sure the system reboots and let me know how the drive is functioning now.

The CD wont run I even try to find the drivers didn't update or no new drivers

My thoughts that the CD Laser is damage (red laser) inside the unit.

So what is the status of the malware issue

Hi again,

Sorry for the delay. There was some malware on the system, but it wasn't too serious. I would see if you could try to swap out the CD/DVD player for another one to see if the problems persist.

==========

We still need to fix the proxy setting and do some updates, so do leave just yet.

I'd like you to launch RogueKiller.exe again, but this time click the "Proxy RAZ" button to remove the proxy.

When done with that, make sure the machine reboots. Then please re-run DDS as instructed in the prep guide just as you did before, but you can leave out the attach.txt this time around.

Post me the new log in your next reply.
