Ok, a little background - I purchased the parts for a new build, and I assembled the system myself. (I'm A+ Certified, and I've been doing freelance IT work for the better part of 12 years)
The motherboard on the system fried (after about 4 days and no overclocking) and took all the parts that were attached to it with it. I got the parts replaced, completely different set of parts this time. (New MoBo, New proc, New ram, New VC)
Fast forward 2 weeks - I'm now seeing some random pinkish/purpleish streaks in some programs, and I've had many blue screens. I'm wondering if there's not something wrong with my solid State Hard drive.
Aside from the 2 this evening, they've all been different...
If anyone can assist, please do... Thanks in Advance.

MG

PS, I tried to upload my most recent dump files, but I was not permitted to do so...
I can email them or whatever if needed....

Hello and Welcome -
If you wish to upload Blue Screen Dumps, please follow these directions -
Please download BlueScreenView (in zip file) to your Desktop
  • Extract (right-click > Extract all) the contents of bluescreenview.zip.
  • Double-click on the Extracted Folder
  • Double-click on the BlueScreenView.exe file, to run the program. (No installation is required.)
  • When scanning is done (usually complete by the time the interface appears), go ...
  • Edit > Select All
  • File > Save Selected Items, and save the report to your Desktop as BSOD.txt.
  • Close the BlueScreenView window... ... ...
  • Open BSOD.txt using Notepad and go ... .... ..
  • Edit > Select All
  • Edit > Copy, and then paste the entire contents of the text file into your next reply.

Other dumps can usually be uploaded as Zip files - Use the Add Reply option at the bottom right of the panel -

Thank You -

Well...your errors reflect file corruption...which, in turn, could be caused by hard drive problems.

I don't see where you indicate that you ever did a clean install after your first set of problems. If not, the different drivers, settings, etc. on the hard drive...might account for problems.

After assuring myself that the hard drive is free of problems...I'd try running the chkdsk /r command and see what happens. If chkdsk /r is unable to complete, you know. If chkdsk /r throws up a message that the file system is damaged beyond its abilities to repair, you know.

I suppose that it could also be a PSU problem...but let's take it a step at a time.

Hamluis -
My primary suspect at this point is in fact the solid state hard drive. When I got the parts replaced, I did not swap out the SSD or the PSU.
I DID do a full format and subsequent clean install when I put the replacement parts in (full, not quick format). I will run check disk /r in a bit and tell you what happens.

At this point, I am taking the SSD and PSU back to the store tomorrow, they are willing to do an open box exchange for the same parts for me. I want to know what's going on before I take it all back.

I REALLY appreciate the help!!!

Ran chkdsk /r

The volume is clean.....

I didn't get a chance to look at the final information it posted after the 5th step, but it said that after it restarted itself.

*Side note.... my computer is suddenly running like a raped ape on meth.
it's never been this fast.....

thoughts?

<<When I got the parts replaced, I did not swap out the SSD or the PSU.>>

Well...if I had a system with parts replaced other than those two...and I saw problems previously exhibited...I'd see more than coincidence.

FWIW...I previously suggested running a diagnstic on the hard drive...before running chkdsk /r. Chkdsk /r is a file system tool, not a hard drive diagnostic...many people don't seem to understand the difference.

As I said...I run the appropriate diagnostic on the hard drive...to check functionality...as a basic step before doing anything else.

At this point...it seems prudent to move your topic to Internal Hardware, IMO, so I will do that.

Sorry for the late update, if you're still even reading over this. I replaced the final parts, still getting random blue screens though.. Could I possibly have a bad Windows Disk? I've read elsewhere that a bad disk can sometimes cause issues after an apparent successful install.

Hi,

Is the replacement the same make and model SSD?
What is the make and model of SSD drive and have you updated it to the latest firmware?

Since you are suspicious of the drive, do you have a 7200 RPM drive you can use to install to and boot from as a test?

Hi rotor.
Yes, I got the exact same make and model of the SSD. It's a crucial M4, has the latest drivers (or so says the device manager). I DO have a 3TB internal drive that I can install to, but since the SSD was replaced..... what are the chances I got 2 bad in a row?

I will post my more recent blue screens in a few mins.

It isn't drivers I was asking about. It is the drives firmware, i t looks like 000F is OK and 010G is the latest. However there are 37 pages of messages about the 010G firmware here http://forums.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD/Crucial-m4-firmware-010G-is-now-available/td-p/107936

You might want to read here too http://forums.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD/bd-p/ssd

One thing I've learned is that firmware needs to be current.

Example many OCZ SSDs had large problems with the earlier firmware.
The Intel drives I use had a problem with some drives where it would suddenly change detected size and only a secure erase would fix that. Fortunately for me I never got hit with that one and the 5 Intel SSD in use here are solid and of course updated.

That is why I suggested a test install on a regular hard drive to be pin the problem down to the SSD or other hardware.

FWIW The best SSD drives for reliable seem to be Intel and Samsung.

Also have you run a thorough memory test? Maybe it isn't compatible with the motherboard? Have you checked to be sure it is on the compatible list?

Good Luck
Roger

No, I didn't look to see if it's on a compatible list. Didn't think it would be an issue, it's a hard drive, and it connects to the board, logic says it should in theory work... :)

I will see if I can get the firmware upgraded...
I had another IRQL crash eralier.. REALLY getting annoying... :(

Just tried to update the firmware. Ran the utility, and nothing happened. Then I read on their forum that the new firmware update DOES NOT work w/UEFI bios... So I'm gonna have to wait.
