I have an older Compaq Presario desk top that I use out in the shop. My garage is detached and so I use an Amped wireless UA 600 to get a wireless signal out there.

The computer was on when the power went out last Monday and when it came back on on Friday I found that I could not get any Internet out in the garage. I'm getting 100% signal strength but it appears that I never get an IP address.

Other computers (families laptops and such) have no problem Accessing the router.

I did try to uninstall then reinstall the program for the adapter but that didn't help.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hello -

First option for this problem is System Restore - Do you still have Restore points that you can use ??

If it is usb model, try unplugging it and plugging it back in sometimes that will refresh it. If that doesn't work try rebooting in "last known good configuration" do this by pressing F8 after the bios loads

Go to start>run in the text box type cmd. This should bring up a command prompt. Once there type ipconfig/flushdns. It should respond "successfully flushed the dns resolver cache". Then try connecting again. Another to try is if you had a profile stored for that connection, delete it and store a new one. Let me know if this works, if it doesn't I will talk you through some diagnostic software.

Took a couplw tries to flush dns but I finally got it.

Also deleted and renewed the profile.

Neither had any affect as I still have no IP address or connection.

Ok, go to downloads on this site, windows, page 4 near the bottom, dowload, and run minitoolbox. place checkmarks next to the following:
list contents of hosts
list ip configuration
list winsock entries
list last ten event viewer errors
list installed programs
list devices (only problems)
list minidump files

copy and paste the results here, please do not attach text file

It took less time than I thought. It looks like you might have a malware issue that is stopping some services from running. I would suggest you post in Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs section in security forum. They will want to see this log you pasted here. You should also go back to the downloads section and get farbar recovery scan tool and run it and paste the log it creates too. hijackthis logs will also be helpful to them. They are very helpful over there, but you have to be patient and give them time to respond. It could take up to 4 days for a response, but they will get to you. Good luck

Malware topic.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic474262.html/page__p__2887848#entry2887848

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRL Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

The current wait time is 1 - 2 days and ALL logs are answered.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.
