Just joined the group as the latest step in a journey that started this morning when I began reading an article on one of my favorite sites (Gibson Research Corp -GRC.com) and then subsequently discovered that my computer defenses have probably been breeched by the CoolWebSearch Trojan (or at least I think it has). I submitted my HJT log to Spyware Warrior and am waiting their suggestions. Moreover, this site looks like a good place for a semi: skilled/literate retired home user to get educated and stay abreast of what's happening vis-a-vi using the Internet and defending against all the wacko's trying their best to make a very good thing into a very bad/costly experience. I look forward to a most satisfying experience here.

Shield's Up is one of my favorites, too - from before I knew of BC.
Semi: skilled/literate retired home user describes me to a "T" (winXPpro being really the only "pro" part of what I do. lol)

There are tons of excellent tutorials and pinned threads on computer security that you will find helpful, and many people ready to share thier hard-won experience in dealing with all kinds of malware and computer problems in non-technical language. Welcome to BC!!!!

John
