Hi, I got a "Getting back into facebook" email. But my account has been disabled for a long time. I don't think it was a random social engineering email because it had my name in it. And it said I had requested it. So I think someone tried to log in to my old account with my old email address. What do you guys think happened?

Thank you so much for the reply.

First off I have a few questions. How did it get my name? Am I safe since I opened it? Are we sure this is the same thing as the email I got?

There are many forms of spam and one of their capabilities is obtaining and manipulating any information or called hacking. Any unknown action or suspicious messages that you are not expecting from unknown senders should be ignored. As long as you did not follow or give out any further information from illegitimate sites that you were directed, it is considered safe. Install Web of Trust Addon to notify you of sites you are visiting. If you have other concerns regarding any probable infections or form, please visit the Malware Experts and Specialists of BC for further diagnosis and advice.

But there was no way a hacker/spammer could have gotten my name to put in the email. I didn't give the email any information, so is my account still deactivated?

I entirely understand how spammers harvest email addresses. But what I DON'T understand is how the spammer harvested my email address AND knew my real name (that was inserted in the facebook email).

I only used this address for facebook and youtube (and I didn't use my real name on youtube).
