Yes I'm not so sure defender is running but in my tray the triangle arrow has a flag (action center?) and a red cross flashes quickly every 4 seconds and a dialouge box flashes also but dissapears so i cant read it, when I open the action center one item "Defender needs to scan your computer" and has start scan button but returns "windows defender code 0x80070424"

If you need any more info please ask.

Hi -
Do you have Windows7 SP1 installed and Microsoft Updates running Automatically ?? Also check Win7 Firewall is off -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968002 shows how to check and reset your Updates. This may be related to your problem -

Your Action Center could be trying to install updates that are not required with your Antivirus being Active
Check in your Updates area for any Updates that were not installed recently, and see if any of them relate to Defender -

It seems to only be minor (from research), and only a minor problem between your Antivirus and Defender Antimalware -

Zone alarm has caused a few minor problems with AntiMalware programs recently, including Malwarebytes program -

Thank You -
