Hi, I've recently used ccleaner on a laptop to help sort a multitude of issues caused by years of negelct. To all intents and purposes, computer seems to be working absolutely fine now. However, despite connection being in place I cannot get a browser to work properly.

Diagnostics suggests Winsock issue.

As far as the browser is concerned, no connection at all, though checking network connections etc shows that the connection itself is working fine.

I troubleshoot very crudely, based on the fact that most problems are quite simple. I did not plough through all the troubleshooting info so pardon any ignorance on my part. Were I starting from the original symptoms, first thing I would do is stick an IP address in the browser such as 209.85.225.104 which is Google. If the page comes up, you probably have a DNS server issue. I did notice in one of the reports that it connected to Google IP and not Google.com which I would have thought indicates that issue. Temporarily go to another such as OpenDNS or Comodo. Simply cycling the power to the router and waiting 30 secs or renewing the Internet lease can also make problems disappear.

Open DNS servers
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Comodo
156.154.70.22
156.154.71.22

That's my five cents, I'll leave you to it.

Hadnjury;
No, there was no connection showing when I ran toolbox. I had been using a cable to connect to try to circumvent the wireless but this did not affect the issue. When I use the computer now, without a cable connection, the wireless internet connection claims to be connected, but the browsers claim otherwise still.

Nanobyte;
Thanks, will check that out.

Call your internet provider. Tell them what is going on and have them reset your modem. This should hopefully work.
