Why are new OS and hardware upgrades needed for basic internet browsing computers?

The Internet's basically always been the same: text, audio, and streaming video, so is it all bells & whistles and security that we need to upgrade OS and hardware every so often?

The Internet's basically always been the same: text, audio, and streaming video, so is it all bells & whistles and security that we need to upgrade OS and hardware every so often?

The Internet and the browsers are always changing, and security needed for the browsers is always being updated.
Your Antivirus and Antimalware programs also need daily updates to keep up with basic ttheats being added at an alarming rate -

20 years ago there was only about 70 to 100 known infections - Today there are over 100,000 known threats and growing daily (check Wiki if you do not believe me)
Your browser needs to recognise many of these problems to prevent you downloading them -

Run I.E.6 and the early version of Firefox, never update your Antivirus or Antimalware programs and you will be in the Malware Removal Forum in 2 day (or less) -
