My wife's computer, Dell Dimension 5150, cannot access the internet. When I try to, it freezes. I have run Superantispyware, and Malwarebytes, but without updates. I have tried it in safe mode with command prompt to run chkDsk.. In normal mode the SAS froze after 35 secs. when I used Ctrl+Alt+Del I got a "This program cannot be closed because it is locked by the system." I am now at a loss. I think maybe I have a virus or root kit problem. Any help please?

if you have an 2nd computer avaible maybe you can build out the problem HDD and connect on the working PC.

this way you can do a scan with updated programs.
after this you can build the HDD back in and try another scan so the register and RAM cache will be checked as well.

in the mean time the scan is running, maybe you can see in the bios for an hardware diagnostic scan ?
