When I turn my Windows XP computer on the whole screen is taken up by in image that says - Firewall of the United States - Computer Blocked. This computer has been blocked to Americans by the US Government Firewall. I have 72 hours to pay via MoneyPak
Though I can access the Start Menu I can't view any other program. The laptop is a HP Elitebook that has a 1.8 inch hard drive. I don't have the proper tool to connect the hard drive to another computer.

Any suggestions on how to remove this infection is appreciated.

Restart the PC and press F8 and select SAFEMODE WITH COMMAND PROMPT

In the command prompt type these commands and press <ENTER> for each

cd \windows\system32\restore
rstrui.exe

System restore box should come up,select a previous restore point and restore.

Let me know if that worked.

This is scareware so dont let it scare you.
You don't even have to enter safemode half the time to rid of it either.

Use this process.

1. Once logged on and it pops up, press the power button on the computer
2. If the dialog box pops up that says Continue Shutting Down or Cancel, hit cancel.
3. What we have done is tricked this scareware into thinking the computer is shutting down, and the process ends.
4. Download Malwarebytes, and do a full system scan. Malwarebytes is amazing at getting rid of scareware.

Hopefully this helps you out some.

Edit:

If this method didn't work, try using BitDefenders Boot CD. This can scan for viruses without loading into Windows. Should rid of your scareware.

If not, then I have another suggestion.
