G'day All,
partners PC.....XP, SP3...all updated. REmoved Norton 360, in order to Install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE)
Uninstall went well...used Norton Removal Tool.....rebooted....all good.
However.....used TreeSize, and noted that C:\Recycler\NProtect is still present and is absorbing a humungous 26 GB of valuable space.......this keeping of recycled crap is not necessary as we use a backup plan to guard against any mistakes.

read an article on BC here..http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic56202.html and the run command ...
rmdir /s \\?\C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT returns 'windows cannot find rmdir. make re you typed correctly etc etc

Clues or advice Please
Brian

To add too the above post - Install and Run directions for TFC Cleaner

Clean out your temporary internet files and temp files.

Download TFC by OldTimer http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/TFC.exe to your desktop.

Double-click TFC.exe to run it.

Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator

TFC will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
* Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process.
* Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two.
* Please let TFC run uninterrupted until it is finished.Once TFC is finished it should restart your computer. If it does not, please manually restart the computer yourself to ensure a complete cleaning.

Noknojon,,,,I have just done as described above and the result in treesize is attached...No its not...cant attach anything.....

and....what i did not add was.......there is no change !! screen shot of tree size below.

Edited to remove the mess !!
the original idea was to copy and paste a shot of treesize......so everyone could see the fact that recycler etc was in fact still present.....made a mess !....no idea why.

NEXT -
Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop
Junkware Removal Tool by thisisu
•Shut down your protection software if it causes potential conflicts.
•Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
•The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. This may take oner 5 minutes -
•On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
•Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

FINALLY if you still have a problem -
Empty the Windows temporary folder with this command -
Click Start , click Run , type %temp% , and then click OK.
Click Edit, select All. Click File and then click Delete.

See if those clean up a few things -

THe instructions for using rmdir /s \\?\C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT is several years old and was intended for use with System Works. Have you tried using the current Norton Removal Tool?

Hopefully these links will work and you will be able to see the little blighters

Quietman7, yes...I did realize that....but given the possibilities of random crap being present on this particular PC....I gave it a run anyway !

Yes.....I used Norton Removal Tool...prior to installing MSE. I was careful to "get it right"...having had a few "experiences" with norton on prior occasions....which i have No wish to repeat !!

I had a peep at 'removing norton protected recycle bin'....and the bin was not 'protected', as far as i can tell, in the first place......it certainly does not display any characteristics that would suggest that it is now either
I right clicked on it...on both the problem PC and my own....and they appear the same in the properties fields.

I have this rotten feeling that i am missing something bleedingly obvious here !!....you know.....the "DUH !!" factor ??!!

No its not...cant attach anything << Always better to use Copy / Paste for any logs etc -

Hi Mate -
I found this command to remove the nrecycler -
Start > RUN > CMD, for command Prompt… or whatever your fav way to open the DOS command screen, then type exactly as below
It is enlarged so you can see the 2 spaces - The first after rd and then again after S -

rd /S "\\?\C:\recycler\nprotect"
and it will ask to verify:

Are you Sure? Yes / No… click on Y for Yes, takes a few moments

Without playing in the registry, this was the easiest solution I found -

Solution 2 = Join Norton Forum and post the problem there for them to try and solve -

Thank You -
EDITED to further enlarge code -
