Hi folks,

I have the following laptop...

HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC
AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2.00 GHz
1.94 GB Ram
2 G Hard Drive
32 bit Operating System
Windows Vista

My question is there anything I can do to boost performance? I heard Windows 7 would vastly improve it but I don't think this system will handle it as it stands.

Played with my wife's iPad to see if I would be interested in going that route but I think I prefer the laptop. My desktop is the workhorse in the house, the laptop is mainly for surfing the web with my coffee in the morning....news/financial/sports sites etc. It's just good enough now that I can't see putting up a bunch of cash for a new machine but gets a little frustrating as compared to the desktop. There are a bunch of processes running but I don't which to close and if that'd make much of a difference?

Thanks for any advice!

You could install Windows 7 or the upcoming Windows 8, that should help a little. For what you do, unless you keep many windows open at once, 2GB of RAM should be more than enough. How much hard drive space do you have? I doubt you have 2GB. You could always get a Microsoft Surface if you want to go the iPad route but have an optional keyboard.

<<Error: (10/23/2012 10:11:42 AM) (Source: disk) (User: )

Repetitive error, needs attention.

I think your hard drive may be failing...which means that you should try to move any vital files from it as a precaution.

Once that is done...then try the chkdsk /r command.

Finally, run the appropriate hard drive diagnostic...just to ensure that we know the functional status of the hard drive.

Installing Windows 7 with 2GB of RAM...isn't likely to provide any performance increase , IMO...Vista is better suited to run efficiently with 2GB of RAM.

You are running heavy programs like MS Office and Google Earth...if I wanted to improve performance, I'd simply double the RAM installed.
