I re-formatted the hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 1318 laptop, which operates using Windows Vista. I successfully re-installed Windows Vista onto the machine. I then tried re-installing the necessary drivers from a DVD labelled "DRIVERS AND UTILITIES" that states the contents are Device drivers as well as diagnostics and utilities. However, I ended up with a message that read "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'Dell Resource CD' disk and click OK".

Any ideas what is wrong and how I can fix it? I can't go online without the drivers, so I need a solution that doesn't involve this.

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/inspiron-1318 , select the correct O/S, then download appropriate drivers for that O/S.

Hi,

you said: 'I can't go online without the drivers, so I need a solution that doesn't involve this' - try going to the website provided by hamluis from any other computer, download the drivers and then copy to your computer using USB stick or CD/DVD.

Best of luck.
