Hello, everyone.

My desktop PC within a 24-hour period has become suddenly so slow it's mind-boggling. So slow that "CREEPING" is an understatement. Startup takes much longer. Programs won't load at all (or at least take five minutes to start). Was working BEAUTIFULLY a couple days ago.

The one thing I did between it working and not was some video conversion. Used Wondershare (no longer on PC due to system restore mentioned later in this post) to convert a bunch of MKVs to WMVs. Did a large batch of them that I think may have pushed the CPU too hard. Maybe I fried something? I'm not sure, I'm not nearly as computer savvy as you guys and girls here, but that's why I'm here hoping you may help me.

Here are my system's specs.

-HP Pavilion p7-1074-

CPU: AMD Phenom II 960T Quad-Core Processor
RAM: 8GB DDR3
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4200 integrated graphics
HDD: 1.5 Terabyte
Wireless LAN: 802.11b/g/n

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium

I ran full system scans with both Norton and Malwarebytes (we use Malwarebytes Pro and Norton 360 as our protection). Nothing was found in either.

I did a system restore to a point set at September 21st hoping it would help as it was working a month ago just fine. Didn't help.

I've done disk cleanups and defrags to no avail.

After messing with this computer and doing all of the above, it's actually gotten worse. No programs at all will load anymore. Can't even open a browser.

It's really bad now.

Please and thank you to anyone willing to help. It will be greatly appreciated.

Hello can you reboot Windows in Safe Mode with Networking?
Then try running these....See if you can open apps in normal mode after.

Please Download

TDSSkiller

Launch it. Click on change parameters-Select TDLFS file system

Click on "Scan".
Please post the LOG report(log file should be in your C drive)

Do not change the default options on scan results.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

Not sure if you wanted the LOG's in the forum mentioned in "A Reminder To Our Members Regarding Malware Logs" or not, so I'm replying with them in this post.

Computer is still acting slow. Was able to open a browser, though. Computer strokes out if more than one application is open, though. So, at least we're getting somewhere, haha.

When we ask for the logs its OK. Do apps open normally yet?

If you can than run these normally,if not use Safe Mode again.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run. Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Posted Image Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

Please download aswMBR ( 511KB ) to your desktop.
  • Double click the aswMBR.exe icon to run it
  • Click the Scan button to start the scan
  • On completion of the scan, click the save log button, save it to your desktop and post it in your next reply.

Now I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan
  • Hold down Control and click on this link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the Posted Image
      icon on your desktop.
  • Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
  • Click the Start button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
  • Click Advanced settings and select the following:
    • Scan potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click List Threats
  • Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Click the Back button.
  • Click the Finish button.

If these two things that were quarantined and deleted were the problem, it's time to lay down some law on this computer. Hahaha!

If I have anymore problems for the rest of the night, I'll be sure to let you know. I'm going to go try and see just how "normal" it's acting right now. Haha.

Please uninstall this
Java™ 6 Update 31 (64-bit) (Version: 6.0.310)
Java 7 Update 6 (64-bit) (Version: 7.0.60)
Older versions can be exploited.
Reboot

Now go here and install version 7.9

Use last one on the list.

This was probably THE WORST ONE,a plugin

You were most likely infected thru a BitTorrent download.

Probably worth running SAS too,as if nothing else it will find all the tracking cookies///

Please download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free
  • Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to the How to use SUPERAntiSpyware to scan and remove malware from your computer Guide.
  • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
  • If it will not start, go to Start > All Prgrams > SUPERAntiSpyware and click on Alternate Start.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here. Double-click on the hyperlink for Download Installer and save SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to your desktop. Then double-click on SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to install the definitions.)
  • In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.
  • Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked.
  • Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all other options as they are set):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the Control Center screen.
  • Back on the main screen, under "Select Scan Type" check the box for Complete Scan.
  • If your computer is badly infected, be sure to check the box next to Enable Rescue Scan (Highly Infected Systems ONLY).
  • Click the Scan your computer... button.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally.

Everything seems to be working better. A few hiccups here and there (unexpected freezing for a minute or two out of nowhere), but much better than before. If there's nothing else you need me to do to be 100% sure I'm all good then I thank you very much for your help!

UPDATE: By hiccup, for example, it just took about 20 seconds to delete a 1.21kb text file and Waterfox just took 5 minutes to start. But this only happens every once in a while.
