I have been running the unity, took me awhile to get used to it. I am starting to like it. I like being able to add web apps to the launcher.

Despite its lack of customization, Unity really is great to use and has some interesting functionalities.

Go to the software center an download MyUnity. You will be able to custmize the launcher, dash, icons, the task bar... ect.

Not quite as cool as the customizations that are available for some of the cairo docks and such but better than the default..

I'm currently running Xubuntu and it works great. Not a fan of Unity or gnome 3 ether they look horrible.
