When I open up my control panel > System & Security then click "Windows Update" the control Panel freezes and stays that way. I have to ctrl+alt+delete to end it and wait a few seconds for windows to restart.

So What do you suggest?

Does this happen only on selecting windows update option?

Click on startmenu and type

cmd

Right click on it and select run as administrator and run this command

sfc /scannow

After scan completes, restart the PC and launch windows update.Does that help?

The previous or so times I have tried had done what I have stated. However just now I went and tried one more time before doing as stated above and yet a new thing has happen. This time Windows Update has opened instead of freezing, but in a new twist gave me this error message when clicking "check for updates": "Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running".

Windows Update: http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k528/CJMilla/bandicam2012-10-1518-49-33-299.jpg
The settings its at: http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k528/CJMilla/bandicam2012-10-1518-49-41-271.jpg

Should I still do as above or should I try something else first?

PS: I already tried changing the settings/exit and change again to no avail.
