Greetings. First off, I could have sworn that I got an answer to a similar question about a previous Avira antivirus upgrade but I can't seem to find it.

I was notified by Avira upon booting up my machine the other day to upgrade to their new free 2013 version and I went about downloading it. During the process I got a very similar message that I got the last time I upgraded: that Avira found potentially incompatible software that may cause problems with Avira and that I need to uninstall them manually(spyware blaster and malware bytes anti malware). I think the answer I got the last time this happened was that it is simply a warning and that nothing "bad" will happen. Could someone here confirm that for me please?

Thank you so much.

Greetings. First off, I could have sworn that I got an answer to a similar question about a previous Avira antivirus upgrade but I can't seem to find it.<< It would take a while to go back, but if it was about 1 year ago then use your Find My Content tab to look back for the subject matter -

Do you, or have you still (by chance) installed another Antivirus program and not fully removed it yet ??
There is also a chance that a Firewall, or other a/virus , a/malware, setup can be blocking this from downloading -

Is this the posted topic you were thinking about ??

Yep, I did look in "my content" and could not find it. I did see the one you link above, but that's not it either :( I'm now wondering if I asked that question in another post. could be. I don't think I have another antivirus program installed but that is something to check.

thanks for your reply. I think I might just find a different free antivirus program.

Hi :)

Avira shouldn't have any problems. Unfortunately, a lot of security companies are going this way and seem to care more about money then recommending a user have additional protection installed. Some companies like Trend Micro go as far as automatically uninstalling them. My suggestion is to uninstall Avira and go with a different product like Avast! or something that does not recommend this or include toolbar junk.
