Hi, Yesterday my son phoned in a panic, he could not use I.E 8, everytime he tried it gave a runtime error. I managed to take control of his PC with Team Viewer 7 and transfer Firefox to his PC. I updated his antivirus (AVG Free as he doesn't have much cash) and when run it found 132 threads. I then downloaded Malawarebytes, but this did not find any problems. He only uses the PC for facebook, ebay and emails.
On looking at the registry under Software\Classes\Interface\ there are hundreds of long string entries. I don't know what these are for, are they genuine or can they be regarded as should not be there? If they are not needed is there anything I can run to delete those not needed?
Many thanks for any advice.

Every computer will have hundreds of entries there. Without them, the computer and the programs would not function properly.

What is the specific runtime error your son received?
