My Toshiba laptop started running really slow and locking up. The I get a screen "A disk read error occurred, press alt/control/delete to restart.

I hit the alt/con/del and it takes me to the Toshiba f2/f12 screen for a second then back to the error screen.

I bought a new laptop but there are some files on the old one I woulnd like to get.

Whats is wrong...the hardrive shot?

Anyway I can retreive the files?

thanks !!!

How dependable the drive will be questionable since a disk read error could be a bad hard drive. Try using a Linux bootable disc and see if you can retrieve first your data.
