I am always getting warnings in the event viewer about the filter manager not attaching to the drives, is there a fix for this? I have done a factory reset that re-installs vista but the warnings were still there, I don't have a disc as vista home premium came pre-installed and I never made a recovery disc, thanks in advance for any information about this. I've done a sfc scan and got a cbs.log file with info about the fltmgr.sys something like cannot repair but it's all jibberish to me.

Hi and thanks for replying so soon, hope this is all in order for you, it gives the last 10 event viewers errors, the only thing is it doesn't allow me to give the warnings which is where the filter manager warnings are, if you don't mind I'll paste one from the cbs.log if you could have a lok at that also,

2012-10-01 21:05:34, Info CSI 000000ad [SR] Verify complete
2012-10-01 21:05:35, Info CSI 000000ae [SR] Verifying 100 (0x00000064) components
2012-10-01 21:05:35, Info CSI 000000af [SR] Beginning Verify and Repair transaction
2012-10-01 21:05:35, Info CSI 000000b0 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:20{10}]"fltMgr.sys" of Microsoft-Windows-FilterManager-Core, Version = 6.0.6002.18005, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL (0), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, file cannot be checked

what ever I have done I can't get to this file as it pops up "access denied" I had to get this file through safe mode, also now I can't get full results from running a sfc scan as it stops at 46%, I'll leave it with you and hope you'll be able to help, and thanks again.

In Event Viewer...I never concerm myself with "warnings", it's the "errors" that are significant and which may require some action on my part, IMO.

Your Event Viewer errors don't seem to be anything significant.

If you are not having any discernible problems with any aspect of the system performing...my advice would be to focus on errors when you play with Event Viewer...and let the warnings lie in wait for rainy, boring day :). Most of those warnings require no action and are purely Administrative results of Windows functioning as it does.

Others here may have differing views :).

Thanks Louis, the computer seems to be going alright, it's just that a message popped up a while ago and drew my attention to the event viewer, so if it doesn't look serious I'll let it fire away and wait for that rainy, boring day, thanks again.

Well...I don't think that Event Viewer results in pop-up error messages...ever. I don't recall ever seeing such.

If you receive an onscreen error message, that is not Event Viewer...it's either malware or a STOP error, IMO.

Whatever it is...you need to write it down and post the next one you receive.

sorry for leading you astray Louis the pop up error was nothing to do with the event viewer, it was just after it i started looking in the event viewer, can't seem to mind the error, but for some reason it made me look there. do you know anything about winscp?

We seem to be on a chase of some sort :).

I'd appreciate it if you can just post the exact error message, when you receive such again.
