I notice that this is a new addition in an update.

From what was displayed, everything seemed fine, until it reaches this part:

Cannot edit the HOSTS file.
* Permissions Fixed. Administrators can now edit the HOSTS file.

* HOSTS file entries found
:
--- Strange looking URLs follows ---

Should I be concerned about this? Thank you!

Are you using Spybot S&D?

There are several legitimate security programs which can add numerous entries to the HOSTS file. Spybot S&D offers four levels of protection to include...Immunization, Resident SDHelper, TeaTimer, Hosts file protection (adding entries).

The fourth level of protection is through the addition of HOSTS file entries. This is a passive protection. The HOSTS file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names and is loaded into memory at startup. The HOSTS file must contain one entry: "127.0.0.1 localhost". The IP address 127.0.0.1 is the local machine. Windows checks the HOSTS file before it queries any DNS (Domain Name System) servers, which enables entries in the HOSTS file to override addresses in the DNS. Adding an entry such as 127.0.0.1 malware.com to the HOSTS file prevents the access of malware.com through IE because any connection attempts are redirected back to the local machine. HOSTS file entries can also be used to block other applications from connecting to the Internet.

If you used Spybot's immunization feature, the "Global (Hosts)" profile typical adds about 15493 entries to the HOSTS file starting with 127.0.0.1. Any inactive domains and those reported as false positives will be removed when doing immunization. However, the large size of the Hosts file created by Spybot immunisation has sometimes been reported to cause problems such as a significant delay when opening Internet Explorer.

If you open the Hosts file, the note at the top and bottom will show the entries were inserted by Spybot:
# Start of entries inserted by Spybot - Search & Destroy
# This list is Copyright 2000-2008 Safer Networking Limited
127.0.0.1	007guard.com

127.0.0.1...
# This list is Copyright 2000-2007 Safer Networking Limited
# End of entries inserted by Spybot - Search & Destroy
If you perform an "Undo" via the Immunize button on the Spybot main screen, the entries Spybot added should be removed. From the Immunize panel, deselect the Hosts file protection as follows:
  • Click the Undo option at top of screen to remove all immunizations.
  • Uncheck Global Hosts...the last item in the list.
  • Click Immunize option at top of screen to re-apply immunization without the Hosts entries.

hey.

i used spybot so all them would be in hosts. not any more.

should do the undo and remove it.

yes ie is slow and only used it for ms updates.

now ie is useless since ms forced people to use newer version incompatible with what i use.

and now the news of win10 turning on microphone and capturing users data etc.

found superantispyware more to my liking.

so its winpatrol, zone alarm and avg, then run superantispyware and mbam monthly .

is that the safe ultradefrag? ive had none of the popups described on your page. what made me search was a defrag started running on restarts . press any key to stop.

i let it run once thought it would stop then found option in defrags drop downs.

lately windows has been taking for ever to switch folders or it crashes. but not every time.  maybe a coruption.

used pc and the disc i have it dont like.

far as i know there are no bugs but you never know any more.

any thoughts?

much thanks

It's up to you whether or not to remove those HOSTS file entries created by Spybot. I stopped using the program years ago so I don't have them in my HOSTS file.

Which version of Zone Alarm are you using? If it is just the Firewall...then it is not necessary as Windows Firewall is more than enough. If it is a version which includes anti-virus protection then it should be removed to avoid conflicts with AVG.

See the IMPORTANT NOTE about not using more than one anti-virus program in this topic.
